UPDATE: Calabasas at San Juan Hills RESCHEDULED to

Saturday, November 10th at 7:00 PM

Because of the impact to players, families, and fans of the Calabasas Coyotes caused by the fires in the Malibu/Ventura County areas, the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Quarter-final playoff game between Calabasas and San Juan Hills has been postponed until Saturday, November 10th at 7:00 PM.  The game will still be played at San Juan Hills High School's Badlands Stadium.

The San Juan Hills Stallions play host to the Calabasas Coyotes on Saturday, November 10th in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Playoffs.

The Stallions, now 8-3, advanced after beating a tough Edison Chargers team 22-15 in a game that kept fans on the edge of their seats throughout.  San Juan Hills sophomore quarterback Hudson Jones completed 12 of 19 passes for 225 yards with one touchdown and one interception.  Junior Joey Hobert collected 8 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown, while adding another 49 yards rushing the ball.  Senior running back Chase Monarch powdered his way to 79 yards on the ground, with junior Austin Hogan accounting for another 56 yards.  The Stallion defense once again played tough, allowing only 209 yards of total offense, tallying an impressive 3 interceptions, 7 sacks and 6 quarterback hurries, along with a staggering 16 tackles for loss.  Once again, senior Cade Albright provided the spark, making himself at home in the Charger backfield as he accounted for 3.5 sacks, and 6 solo tackles (all for losses), with senior Darius Jackson adding 13 tackles.  As fans have come to expect, Hobert also played a key role on defense with 10 tackles and 2 interceptions – the second of which stopped an Edison drive in the end zone during the 4th quarter.  Senior Caden Vaughn also picked off Edison quarterback Braeden Broyles, further confounding the usually potent Charger offense.  Coach Rob Frith, once again praised his team for their focus, preparation, and hard work in the week leading up to the first round challenge, and looks for his squad to maintain the momentum that they have built, as they have now won seven straight games.

The 9-2 Coyotes make the trip to south Orange County after rolling over St. Francis 49-7 in a first round playoff game that had gotten out of hand by halftime, with Calabasas taking a 28-0 lead into the locker room.  Coyotes coach and former NFL first-round draft pick Chris Claiborne will certainly look for his offense to make big plays behind junior quarterback Jaden Casey, who has thrown for over 2,600 yards this season, with the trio of senior wide receiver Mycah Pittman, and juniors Johnny Wilson and Jermaine Burton – a transfer from IMG Academy – acting as his favorite targets.

Calabasas at San Juan Hills shapes up to be a great match-up between a pair of well-coached teams in what many consider to be high school football’s second toughest division.
