Rhyan Selected for All-American Bowl

The All-American Bowl Selection Tour made its way to San Juan Capistrano (Calif.) San Juan Hills Wednesday morning to present Top247 offensive lineman Sean Rhyan with his jersey to play in this year’s game.

Rhyan is one of the nation's elite offensive line prospect and is currently rated the No. 52 prospect in the country in the 247Sports Composite and No. 24 by 247Sports. He plays left tackle at the high school level and definitely shows the feet to stay as a tackle in college but the frame to move inside and play as a guard depending on the need as well.

"This is a huge honor for me, I really don't know how else to describe it," Rhyan said. "I didn't do a lot of off-season events but I did attend the All-American Combine in San Antonio last year. If I'm being honest, my mom is the one who kind of coerced me in to it but it paid off and I'm excited to be playing in the game."

We have said it before but Rhyan is one of the most unique players in this years class. He doesn't have a twitter or Instagram account, rarely does interviews and didn't even hear there was an All-American Game until a year ago.

"Growing up, I played rugby and baseball," Rhyan said. "I didn't play football until my freshman year so I didn't know a lot about some of these big camps or All-American Games that go on. I was just a regular kid who played with friends and hung out. I wasn't someone who watched a ton of sports on T.V and didn't really develop a passion for football until high school."

Rhyan is obviously a fast learner and has quickly developed in to a national recruit. He's all of 6-5, 310 pounds but moves like a player half that size. He's a naturally aggressive kid who can dominate at the point of attack, get to the second level and clean out a linebacker or safety and has the lateral quickness to project as a very good pass protector down the road as well.

On the recruiting front, Rhyan has consistently said the two local schools, UCLA and USC, are on him the hardest and reiterated that following today's ceremony.

"I like both school a lot," Rhyan said. "With UCLA, I have a good relationship with the OL coach, Justin Frye and I talk to Chip Kelly a lot as well. I like coach Kelly's philosophy on coaching and how he wants to build the program. I was there for the Arizona game a few weeks ago and had a good time at the Rose Bowl. UCLA is also a really good academic school and that's big for me. I think some times people forget you go to college to learn, not just to play football.

"With USC, I really like Clay Helton a lot and like what he stands for. He's a family guy and a really good person. I had a really good relationship with coach Callaway, the former OL coach but I know they just let him go a few days ago. This is a business and I get that. That's why they say never pick a school for a coach because you never know what can happen. I don't think that will play a big role in my decision moving forward and I'm already talking with coach Drevno and building a relationship with him. I haven't been to USC in a while but I'm going to try and get up to a game pretty soon here."

A few other Pac-12 schools are in the mix with Rhyan as well.

"I'm hearing a lot from Washington and Arizona State is in the mix as well," Rhyan said. "I haven't set up any of my official visits but I want to try and check out Washington for sure. I've been talking with them for a while now and have a good relationship with their OL coach, Scott Huff. He's a good guy and a good coach and they have one of the best programs in the country.

"I'm interested in ASU and just trying to learn more about them. Right now, I don't really have a timeframe for making a decision. Just whenever it feels right for me. I wanted to take some trips but I wanted to wait until after my season to worry about those. I'm just going to play this out and when I feel good about a school, then I'll go ahead and commit."

The All-American Bowl will be played inside the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas on Jan. 5 with the national broadcast set for NBC. The game has featured 380 NFL Draft picks including 86 that have gone in the first round, 16 Heisman Finalists, 52 Super Bowl Champions and 11 NFL Rookie of the Years among its alumni.

The 2018 All-American Bowl included 42 of the top 50 overall recruits in the country and was watched by 41,017 inside the Alamodome, an All-American Bowl record for attendance.
