On July 6, 2020, the Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) communicated directly with California Department of Public Health (CDPH).  CDPH confirmed with OCDE that at this time youth sports, including conditioning activities, are not permitted. CDPH again indicated that guidance specific to youth sports would be released in the future.  OCDE shared that until there is specific guidance provided by CDPH regarding recreational team sports or school-based sports, school districts are advised not to operate summer youth sports programs until further notice. Based on the CDHP communication from OCDE on Monday, July 6, all county-wide high school sports activities have been discontinued until further notice.

We understand that this does not represent the desire of many of our families in our District communities. After a disappointing spring, we were as excited as you to resume activities and prepare for fall sports.  For the past few weeks, District personnel and site Athletic Directors have been working with coaches planning a "return to activity" for July 6th. We were working under guidance from appropriate government agencies to identify the delineated level of safety precautions and limitations to ensure student, staff, and community safety. Our plans were thorough and specific to the most recent guidelines provided. We will continue our planning to ensure a smooth opening if/when we are given the opportunity. However, at this time, all county-wide high school sports activities have been discontinued until further guidance is provided. District personnel will continue to work with OCDE and state public health agencies and resume athletic activities as soon as possible.  Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.
